Our 1st Tree

i bought a tiny christmas tree today.

it's of rosemary, and smells heavenly.

i bought some small ornaments, and put them on it, and when my husband came home today, i surprised him with it.

We don't expect dad to show up any time too soon. Rocky kicked him out of here 10 years ago. He's only been to our place once since then, a grandchild's graduation. But we're still not free and clear. Close friends of my sis have relatives here. Found out they were over visiting this weekend. So the tree went into the daughter's bedroom, which is why we have such a small tree (foot tall). We don't want to totally alienate my dad because Rocky loves to kick hornests nests. We have another graduation in the future and he's looking for the opportunity to have some fun and mess with dad's mind.

Rosemary is wonderful - had one last year, shaped like a Christmas Tree. Kept it in the kitchen without decoration tho. Our oldest wanted a tree soooooo bad, but we're still subject to occasional visits from JW relatives. Our oldest is still 'pining' for a tree, a big one, but think she'll have to wait another year. A friend from work gave her socks for Christmas - red with "Oh Christmas Tree" and little green decorated trees. Maybe next year? don't know how long we can keep under the WT radar with so much family still quite devout. Daughter says "go for the gusto, tree fully decked, lights on the house...REBEL!!! you can do it Mom..." You just don't know the torment. argh! Mrs R

A poem in memory of my mom.

i've never really attempted poetry and don't really understand it completely.

but i do like it and i was inspired to make this post after reading ashitaka's fine poem in eulogy of his grandfather.

i've been asked by a few who were present at my mother's funeral and wake to go ahead and post a part of my eulogy here.

Hi Mulan - as you can see I'm a newbie. So it would be fairly easy to miss me. The Rockster if great - he was over your way a couple of weekends ago visiting...hope he didn't create too much ruckuss (spelling?). So glad Sean posted the Eulogy and the poem. I wanted to share it with my sis if she'll every let down her guard. You know she was really mad at me after the memorial service. Guess I was supposed to follow her out. Oh well. Hope you and yours are well - you too Sean! By the way, we're still trying to keep under the WT radar, easy over here locally, but with family in your neighborhood, a little more difficult. Need these posts to shore me up! Thanks all - Mrs. R

WTS Plan to Improve Stats

it looks like the wts finally put 2 and 2 together on the us branchs failing statistics over the past few years, particularly the years 97 - 01. what happened?.

in the latter part of 1996 cos instructed elders that congregation bookstudy conductors (soon to be officially called "congregation bookstudy overseers) should not initially ask congregation publishers for their field service time reports.

instead, each congregation should have a small box so that publishers could "shoulder their own responsibility by turning in time of their own accord," by voluntarily putting their report slip into this box.

1983, Organized to Accomplish Our Ministry, page 104: "Those giving public talks may count the time spent delivering these, and a parent may count up to one hour each week when studying with his or her undedicated children." The "Organization" book, the OM predecessor published in 1972, does not appear to address how to count family study time on the field service report.

Sunday mornings........ I love them!!

my friend just called me from her cell phone, and is out in service, sunday morning.

complaining like mad.

it's snowing here, and she is miserable.

Does it seem like you have more time between 7 and 10 on Sundays? When we were regular fixtures at the KH it seemed like I could never get breakfast on the table and the kids dressed in time. Maybe it's all in the attitude - permission to enjoy the leisurely breakfast.

Don't think our snow is going to go away for awhile. Think we have at least a foot accumulated here. Took my daughter to breakfast at the cafe by the KH yesterday. Nobody showed up for service that I can tell. If the snow is keeping them home now I wonder what's going to happen when winter really hits?

What was your JW wedding song?

i got to thinking the other day about how jws, at least when i got married in the hall could not use secular music for the ceremony.

we there fore were forced to use kingdon melodies.

anyone else have fond memories about your wedding song?.

Did anyone know that the song "We Thank You Jehovah" is in the hymn book used by the Church of God Faith of Abraham in its entirety? I thought WT got updated the songbook (got rid of songs from the pink songbook and green songbook) to get rid of stuff that Christendom used. Wonder if the GB knows about this?

Just a note on counting family Bible study, if I remember correctly, the family head can only count up to 4 hours a month. Don't know if that's changed - haven't been to a Sales - oops, Service Meeting for about 3 years.
